‘Chic and Peak’ race day now on the calendar

Catherine’s Peak Spring Water, Grace Kennedy join forces for elegance and style at the track

CATHERINE’S Peak Spring Water and their distributor GraceKennedy Limited are partnering with Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment (SVREL) to host the inaugural Catherine’s Peak Race Day, it was announced at a press conference held at Caymanas Park on Tuesday (October 9).

The combined investment of the two sponsors comes with a total of $2.5 million for the race day with $1.5 million going to the promoter (SVREL) and the remaining $1 million towards the race day itself.

The Catherine’s Peak Race Day with the theme “Chic and Peak” take place at Caymanas Park on Saturday, October 27.

Kadia Harris, brand and trade development manager at Catherine’s Peak and GraceKennedy Limited, explained why her organisation is venturing into racing while stating that this new initiative is developing a new race day of elegance and style.

“Every brand reaches a critical stage in its cycle; a stage where it is required to do things differently. Catherine’s Peak Spring Water, the number one spring water in Jamaica, is virtually a household name, and at this point in our cycle, we have sought out the best opportunities to engage and connect with our loyal and valuable consumers.

“The sport of kings, horse racing, is arguably the second largest sport in Jamaica, having the attention of thousands of people almost every day of the week. What better way for us to do things differently but to reach our consumers in a vivid way while we fete and entertain them all day,” Harris said.

Tony Shoucair of SVREL then announced the races on tap on the “Chic and Peak” race day.

“The feature race on the day is The Pickney Peak Stakes – a native-bred two-year-old event over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course for a purse of $1 million (inclusive of $100,000 from the sponsors).

Seven other races will carry the names of products from both Catherine’s Peak and GraceKennedy Limited,” he informed the gathering.

The day also features the Saint Cecelia Trophy, an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward over six and a half furlongs (1,300m) and the Ron Ron Trophy, a Restricted Stakes event for imported three-year-olds and upward non-winners of three and maidens and untried and also include native-bred three-year-olds who have not won four or more races lifetime.

“It is indeed our pleasure to partner with SVREL in this exciting venture for reaching our consumers and we look forward to Saturday, October 27,” Harris noted.
