New York -based dancehall artiste Lady Ali has delivered a body blow to men who lack independence on her latest single Emanuel Road .

Emanuel Road was released last month by Rich Royce/Tropical Blends.

‘The idea was brought to me by someone and I thought the topic was interesting and really needed to be addressed,” she explained.

The song has an accompanying video directed by former Hype TV videographer Anju Val.

‘The video was shot between the Bronx and Queens here in New York. It was a good vibe overall and Jamaicans can look out for it on their television screens,” said Lady Ali.

The deejay said the response to the song has been encouraging.

‘The response towards the song has been great. It’s a song that persons can relate to, while finding it hilarious at the same time.”

Lady Ali has been busy carving out her own niche in the world of dancehall.

Born Alecia Watson, she grew up in St Mary and migrated to the US at 12.

While attending Mount Vernon High in New York, she got involved in the performing arts and began to dabble in dancehall music. She recorded her first single at Beatmania Productions, a raunchy sex-romp called Glimmity Glammity.

However, her second single, Buss Gun got the attention of producers.

“I began performing at local stage shows, opening up for Lady Saw, Macka Diamond, Assassin and Aidonia, Serani, Bugle. the artistes always gave me good advice and told me to work on my music,” said Lady Ali, who is a licensed practical nurse by profession.

The advice paid dividends as in 2006 she recorded Hype All Yu Want for Boardhouse Records. She is now signed to Hitmatic Records. An EP is in the works.
