Will In Charge ready to continue dominance over She’s A Maneater
FOR the past year and a half, the Robert Pearson-conditioned Will In Charge has been one of the most improved and consistent horses in training.
From 10 starts last season, Will In Charge won five times with two-second place finishes and two-thirds with earnings of over $4.5 million. In his other outing, he was fourth in the Diamond Mile.
His victories included the Prime Minister’s Stakes and the Governor General’s Stakes, both run over 10 furlongs (2,000m) and on both occasions, Will In Charge had Bigdaddykool behind him.
This season, Will In Charge continued the good form with three wins from four starts. He opened with a length win over She’s A Maneater in the Legal Light Trophy over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on April 21. He then won the Chairman’s Trophy over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m) beating Seeking My Dream on June 8 before finishing fourth to Houdini’s Magic in The Viceroy Trophy over nine furlongs (1,800m) on June 30. In that race, Will In Charge again had She’s A Maneater behind him.
Will In Charge then recaptured the interests of racing fans with exciting back-to-back wins in the Prime Minister’s Stakes on August 25.
With those wins under his belt, Pearson said that his horse is going well and is ready to ignite the sparks in tomorrow’s Cal’s Tomato Gold Cup.
“ Will In Charge has been great this year so far and I am happy with him. Will In Charge has prepared well for his Gold Cup event and since his last race, he has been working really well. His preparation is on stream and we are just waiting on the day,” a confident Pearson said.
As to the distance of the Gold Cup (seven furlongs) Pearson said.
“Well, he [ Will In Charge] has won over this distance once but in a lesser class. It is a little on the short side but he is a versatile sort and we expect a good run and good enough to win. I don’t think it is a major problem,” said Pearson.
