BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth — Demar Scott, the man charged with the rape of two guests at a hotel in Montego Bay last month, is now in the custody of the St Elizabeth police and is likely to be charged with rape and other crimes committed in Balaclava in 2012, police say.

The Manchester police are also waiting to place Scott on identification parades in relation to six rape cases in Mandeville last year.

Deputy Superintendent Leroy Minott of the St Elizabeth police told the monthly meeting of the St Elizabeth Municipal Corporation yesterday that forensic evidence has linked Scott to the incident involving rape, burglary and robbery in Balaclava six years ago.

“As I speak, he (Scott) is in our physical custody because there was an incident in 2012 in Balaclava… that he would have featured [in],” Minott told councillors and others at the monthly meeting.

He identified the community in the Balaclava area, where the incident took place, as Castleton.

“…He will be interviewed shortly and formally charged in that matter,” Minott said.

Last week, Scott was charged by the St James police with two counts of rape, as well as illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, assault and grievous sexual assault.

The Manchester police indicated late last year that Scott was a “person of interest” in relation to rape in that parish.

Earlier this month, Superintendent Wayne Cameron, chief of police in Manchester, said Scott would be placed on ID parades in relation to six rape cases and related crimes, including robbery and assault between April and late August last year.

Regarding the charges against him in St James, Scott, who was employed at the time as an entertainment coordinator at a hotel, allegedly entered a room and sexually assaulted two women at gunpoint. The gun reportedly fell from his hand and one of the women shot him. He fled and was subsequently held by police.
