Bartlett to provide update on tourism security audit
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, will tomorrow provide an update on the security audit being conducted on hotels and attractions island wide.
The audit is being led by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCO) as part of efforts to ramp up the island’s destination assurance programme.
The tourism ministry said it is part of several initiatives being implemented to ensure the safety and security of the destination.
Tomorrow’s update will be based on the outcomes of consultations with top officials of the ministry, its agencies and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) as well as a safety and security seminar for top industry players, the ministry said in an advisory.
The consultations, which began today and will end on Wednesday, are being guided by international security expert Dr Peter Tarlow.
Dr Tarlow is a scholar in the area of tourism safety and consultancy. He is the founder of Tourism and More Inc and teaches tourism safety to police chiefs across the globe.
He has done work with the Canadian Mounted Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), as well as the United Nation’s World Tourism Organisation.
