26-y-o St James woman charged for abducting baby
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The St James woman who is accused of stealing a baby in the parking lot at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James last Friday has been formally charged by the police.
The woman, 26-year-old Melissa Harriot of Norwood in the parish, is set to appear in the St James Parish Court sometime next week to answer to offences of child stealing.
The baby was reportedly recovered on Sunday after lawmen were contacted by citizens who gave information leading to the whereabouts of the suspect.
The woman and her boyfriend were subsequently arrested when officers visited their premises in Green District in Norwood and found the baby.
It is said that the baby’s mother had asked Harriot who allegedly befriended her, to hold the baby while she went to the restroom.
However, when the mother returned, both her baby and the woman were gone.
