DJ Nicholas up for TT award
Gospel artiste DJ Nicholas is upbeat about his nomination in the 2019 Gospel Music Awards of Trinidad and Tobago. They were announced last week, with DJ Nicholas selected in the category, Regional Artiste of The Year.
“It is an honour to receive a nomination from another country than your own. It reminds me that the ministry has no boundaries,” he said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
The Florida-based DJ Nicholas goes up against Barbados’ John Yard and Neesha Woodz and Samuel Medas from the Cayman Islands for Regional Artiste of The Year.
This is DJ Nicholas’ first nomination in the annual awards which have been presented by Celian International since 2005. The event takes place February 3 at National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, the Trinidad and Tobago capital.
Last year was quiet for DJ Nicholas. Even though he was featured on the songs Millionaire by Yankee B featuring Jason Mighty, and Life by Karlos Cobha, he focused on studies at Broward Colle in Florida.
“In 2018 I finished up some academics. I did not release any new songs except for two collaborations with some artistes. I released a music video and a T-shirt line for my song Bible Addict which came out in late 2017. Overall it was a fair year,” he said.
DJ Nicholas also performed on shows in Barbados, Guyana and the United States. On January 1, he performed at Genesis inKingston and Regeneration in Mandeville.
Next month, he plans to return to the studio for work on his fifth album, which is set for release late this year.
