Kush leans on Rockstone
Known as the stalwart drummer/vocalist with Uprising Roots band, Rashaun “Kush” McAnuff goes solo on Rockstone. He co-produced the recently released song with Iyah One from Shiloh Ites Music.
Uprising Roots are known to cover different aspects of Jamaican music, including ska and roots-reggae. While he is excited about his first solo venture, McAnuff said he does not stray from their ideals on Rockstone.
“I wouldn’t say it’s different from Uprising, it’s the same positive message,” he told Jamaica Observer.
The eldest son of singer Winston McAnuff, Kush McAnuff is a founding member of Uprising Roots. He sang and played drums on Skifiya, their lone album, which was released in 2011.
Last year, he toured Europe with the Inna De Yard group.
McAnuff insists he has not left the ‘Uprising’ fold.
“There will be a follow-up album. Uprising Roots will be releasing the Black to I Roots Album soon and you can expect singles from that new album,” he said.
McAnuff added that while the band plans to increase their recording, they will venture into other areas.
“We’ve recently opened our new headquarters at Ocean View (in east Kingston), so we will be doing a lot of production with old, new and upcoming artistes,” he said.
