Preferred start option available for Sagicor Sigma Run 2019
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Organisers of the 2019 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run have announced that they will once again be offering the preferred start option to entrants participating in the 21st staging of its charity run slated for Sunday, February 17.
The top 50 male and top 50 female runners, based on their times from the 2018 event, will be provided with a special bib and given access to the front of the pack at the start of the race.
Another 500 preferred start positions are also available for 250 walk participants and 250 run participants.
To register for the preferred start option, individuals should contact the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run Secretariat at 876-936-7980-2 or email SGJSigmaSecretariat@sagicor.com . In addition to the registration cost, the preferred start option attracts a cost of $1000.
Race director for the run, Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, shared that the preferred start option is another way that the charity run is seeking to raise funds for its beneficiaries, while giving competitive runners a boost in their efforts to finish fast.
“We have some experienced runners who take part in the event and who want the opportunity to be competitive, which being at the front of the race affords them. Although it is a fun run, we know some persons will want to better their times and others will want to be in the top performers for this year’s run. But it is all for a great cause, with every dollar raised going towards the three beneficiaries,” Francis said.
Sigma Run 2019 has a fundraising goal of $52 million towards three beneficiaries: The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica, the Diabetes Association of Jamaica; and the May Pen Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Official registration closes on February 1, 2019.
The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run is the largest road race in the Caribbean and has accrued more than $350 million in donations for over 30 beneficiaries since inception. The event saw a record 26,519 registrants for the 2018 staging, raising $50 million for the Spanish Town Hospital’s Neonatal Unit and St Christopher’s School for Deaf.
