Resurgence on the move
FOLLOWING modest returns from last year’s efforts from a small stable that is well supplied with a number of quality runners, trainer Ian Parsard is hopeful that this racing season is going to produce more encouraging results.
In January, Parsard started to see positive signs by posting three winners from a mere eight starts.
His latest success was registered by the four-year-old grey gelded son of He’stherealthing, Resurgence, who although having some issues, won the opening race on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park on Saturday (January 26) to complement the expectations of his trainer.
“Yes! He is a very nice horse. He has run four times with two wins and two second place finishes. He has some issues that we have to monitor carefully and manage well, and he was able to get home for the win.
“It was obvious that he was a little short of work but the most important thing was that he got his head in front at the right time and we are happy with the win. However, he needs to be made a little fitter for him to begin to show his true potential,” Parsard pointed out.
By winning the Restricted Allowance V (NB four-year-old and upward–NW2 event) for colts and geldings going 1,100 metres, Resurgence completed the course in a time of 1:09.0 to register his second win in the four-horse field and his first for the season after Smarty Tradition, Nuclear Dan Dada and Christiano were declared very late non-runners.
Installed as the 2-5 favourite, Resurgence got home by a short head from the even money second favourite, Young Boy Eddie (Javaniel Patterson), after a tussle for the lead started entering the final 200 metres stretch run but jockey Omar Walker was able to get Resurgence in front on the line.
The 3-1 chance Zillow, ridden by Ryan Nelson, was another 5 ½ lengths further back in the third slot.
