Type Rs on Parade
As the numbers of the newest generation of Honda Civic Type R increases, ATL Honda has moved to the forefront to help owners enjoy their cars with a series of activities that began on January 20.
ATL Honda, division of ATL Automotive, is the authorised dealers for Honda vehicles.
“We were and are still very excited to have this iconic model as apart of our line-up, bringing back our racing spirit and roots, which has now allowed us to reconnect with Honda driving enthusiasts in the marketplace,” Vasil Lee, head of business — ATL Honda, told the Jamaica Observer‘s Auto magazine.
ATL Honda arranged for 12e owners to make the traditional Jamaican ‘Sunday flex’ with an out of town drive to the north coast, where they were able to meet, interact and share their passion for the brand and the Civic Type R. After meeting in Kingston, the convoy made their way to The Roxborough Restaurant Bar and Grill in St Ann’s Bay. Satisfaction with the event was cemented after comments by several participants who billed it a great initiative to bring local Type R owners together for them to share their experiences with the car. The aim is to have these outings at minimum quarterly with the only restriction being that entry is limited to the current model as purchased from ATL Honda.
“We are ecstatic about the current level of participants, and we only hope to see it grow as word gets out. Being a part of this newly formed Civic Type R club, they’ll get to share all their old and new stories. ATL Honda is glad to see the return of such a performance model to the Honda brand. It’s long overdue,” Lee explained.
According to Lee, the 306bhp turbocharged hatchback, now the fifth Civic to wear the Type R badge, only made it to local sales on the efforts of ATL Honda.
“It was never available for our region until our negations with American Honda Motor Company. Since we were the home of the fastest man in the world, we saw no reason why we couldn’t have the fastest front wheel drive car on the famous Nürburgring.”
