Mayberry Investments Limited returns as title sponsor for a second year in a row for the St Andrew Technical High School’s (STATHS) hosted event..
Anika Jengelley, assistant vice-president of marketing at Mayberry, explained the reasons behind her company’s continued support of the meet.
“It’s a part of our corporate social responsibility mandate, community development, believing in our youth and helping them as much as we can to develop as student athletes. It is another development meet for the athletes to prepare for Champs and we like providing them with that opportunity,” she said.
Chairman of the organising committee, Leroy Cooke, suggested that the meet would continue to feature excellent performances from the participating athletes of the various schools.
He also urged everyone associated with the meet to continue to deliver in a manner fitting of the schools’ motto: “Honour, Diligence and Service.”
“We are going to see some very exhilarating moments and I encourage everyone to enjoy it. Fun and excitement are guaranteed,” he promised.
Acting principal, Yvonne Mamher-Tafari, thanked Mayberry for their continued support and praised the alumni for their vigorous efforts to ensure the success of the meet.
“We must say thank you to Mayberry Investments Limited, which is making a significant contribution now for the second year in a row as our major sponsor.
“We are proud to report that since its inception, our past students have always shown their dedication to this noble institution by being generous and consistent in the contribution,” Mamher-Tafari said.
The meet, which serves as a qualifier for the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championship in March, will feature one of the least offered events, the steeplechase, and provides for the Class Four girls an opportunity to participate in the 70m sprint hurdles and 200m on the track and the long and high jumps in the field. Also on the track for high schools will be the 200m in all classes for both boys and girls and the 4x400m Open.
