Ocho Rios orchid show for February 10
CHARITY group Ocho Rios Orchid Society is set to host its annual show on February 10, at Grizzlys Plantation Cove in Priory, St Ann.
President Pam Chong told the Jamaica Observer North & East last Wednesday that the aim of the society is to promote the love and growth of orchids while giving back to the community through proceeds from the event.
“We will have vendors selling plants, produce, have a food court and lots of classic cars on display. The show will begin at 10:00 am and should end at 5:00 pm. We are a non-profit organisation and we donate to charity. We donate to various places including Mustard Seed, the churches and St Ann’s Bay infirmary among a host of others,” Chong said.
Chong is expecting more than 500 lovers of the exotic plant at this year’s event, which she said has constantly attracted repeat patrons each year because of its uniqueness and entertainment package.
“Come out and see the beautiful orchids, beautiful people, beautiful cars,” Chong said.
The Ocho Rios Orchid Society was formed 27 years ago with the objective of fostering and promoting a love for orchids and to help its members become knowledgeable and proficient in growing the plants.
The society has also offered wide travel experiences to members. Many have travelled to Panama, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hawaii, Bali and the United States of America visiting nurseries and importing plants.
Members are encouraged to expand their collection and provide at least three plants for display at the annual show.
