Levy, Thomson post wins at age-group squash tourney
Reigning All Jamaica Junior Squash champions Tobias Levy and Savannah Thomson started the 2019 season on the right note with wins in the year’s first age-group tournament which was held at the Liguanea Club over the weekend.
From all accounts, Thomson, who currently holds the national and regional Under-13 girls’ titles, has moved comfortably into her new age group. The in-form youngster held off Mia Todd 11/6, 5/11, 7/11, 11/9, 11/2 to win the Under-15/17 category.
Current Under-15 national boys’ champion Tobias Levy fended off a spirited challenge from Aman Dhiman, posting an 11/9, 14/12, 11/6 win to remain in charge of his age group. At the same time, older sibling Sebastian Levy eased past Karan Chatani, registering an 11/6, 11/5, 11/9 victory to comfortably take the Under-17/19 title.
In the Under-13 boys’ competition Jacob Bullock waged an epic battle to beat Liam Henriques 12/10, 10/12, 11/7, 8/11, 11/6, while Elle Wilson dug deep to beat Mehar Trehan 11/9, 12/10, 11/8 in the girls’ draw.
Junior Squash Programme Manager Gill Binnie said, “We had a good showing from our junior players at their first competition for the year and it’s encouraging to see the youngsters stepping up their standard of play and developing their match skills and we’re looking forward to results in 2019.”
