Run Fest in Sandals St Mary Big Bash T20
Two stroke-filled centuries highlighted the second round of the Sandals St Mary Cricket Association Big Bash T20 Competition last Sunday.
At Day’s Mountain, Richardo “Chu Chu” Thompson slammed an unbeaten 112 as the home team rattled up 283-2 off their 20 overs against newcomers Geddes Town. The swashbuckling stroke-maker was ably supported by Super League player Andre Bryce, who made 95.
Thompson was in irrepressible form, smashing the bowling to all parts of the ground, as Day’s Mountain signalled championship intention with their powerful batting line-up.
In their reply, Geddes Town found the going too hot to handle and were bundled out for 44, with only Delroy Anderson 18 not out offering any resistance to Lennox Bridgete 6-26 and Delroy Patterson 3-5 runs.
In the feature match at the same venue, Port Maria extended their unbeaten run with an exciting and nail-biting two-wicket win over Highgate. Batting first, Highgate made 138 all out off 16.5 overs with Renar Ross, 45, being the top scorer, against Wayne Forrester with 4-16. In their turn at the crease, Port Maria reached 139-8, thanks to Richard Creary’s 21 and Toussaint Hassan’s 18 not out.
At Boscobel Oval, national representative Alwyn Williams was in magnificent form, smashing 112 off just 65 balls inclusive of six sixes and 15 fours as Boscobel rattled up 205-2 off their 20 overs against Jack’s River. He was ably supported by Tyrone Daley with 38 off 33 balls and Maurice Harrow with 27 off 17 deliveries. Darrion Walker 1-21 and Donovan Bartley 1-47 were the successful bowlers.
In their turn at the crease, Jack’s River could only manage 141-8 off their 20 overs, with skipper Hanchard Hamilton lashing 42 off 45 deliveries laced with four fours and a six; Donovan Bartley added 37 and Duane Hamilton hit 26 against Delan Rickets 2-32, Daley 1-23 and Adrian Silvera 1-2.
In the first game at Boscobel, Oxford defeated Mango Valley by four wickets. Batting first Mango Valley scored 143 all out thanks to Michael Belnavis’ 53 from 41 balls and Nedroy Pinnock’s 34, against Emile Thomas’ 3-32 and Kemar Rodney’s 2-14. Oxford replied with 144-4, as Orlando Simmonds’ 46, inclusive of four fours and three sixes and Elias Wolliston’s 30 carried them safely past the target. Marlon Thompson took 1-32.
At Three Hills Oval, the home team defeated Bonnie Gate by 23 runs. In their knock Three Hills amassed 143 off their overs with Jeff Staple scoring an attractive 89 not out, while the youthful Bonnie Gate aggregation could only manage 120-9.
The competition, which is also sponsored by Costly Construction, Parkway Pharmacy, Braham Service Station and Wisynco, continues on Sunday with four scheduled matches.
