KINGSTON, Jamaica — Transport Minister Robert Montague today announced the rollout of the Government’s Electronic Fleet Management System which is intended to help enhance accountability and security in the public transportation sector.

Montague disclosed that effective immediately, new applicants who are seeking to obtain public passenger licenses will be required to have a GPS tracker system on their vehicles in order to obtain the license.

The transport minister said current holders of public passenger licenses are being encouraged to, as of April 1 this year, obtain the GPS tracker and have them installed in their vehicles.

Montague noted that those who obtain the GPS tracker before next year will be able to do so at a reduced cost.

However, the minister disclosed that as of April 1 next year the GPS tracker system will be mandatory for all public passenger transport operators.

Montague made the announcement at the Transport Stakeholders Conference which took place at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
