The Bible is still as relevant today as it has always been
Dear Editor,
I wish to respond to a letter to the editor titled ‘Is the
Bible still relevant?’ published by the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.
The Bible is still relevant today as it has always been. It is the same word that will be used to judge us in the last day, according to the way in which we live. (See John 12:48.)
The Bible is not like any other book; it is the only book that contains vast information about God’s existence, creation, His infinite love for us, and His plan for humanity. It also teaches us how to live morally in an immoral world.
I strongly believe that because the Bible has been misinterpreted for many years, as a result there are some people who do question the authenticity and the effectiveness of God’s word to prove whether or not it is relevant in today’s society, or if it is even relevant at all.
Irrespective of what century we are in or how we presume the Bible, God’s word will always be relevant. Most importantly, it takes precedence over everything, because it is the divine and inspired word of God. (See II Timothy 3:16-17.)
Also, it encourages and promotes godly living. If we read, practice, and then embrace those principles we can definitely become better people; the kind that God wants us to be.
