Jamaican Consulate to stage forum on Garvey in NY
NEW YORK, USA — A forum on the legacy of National Hero Marcus Garvey is scheduled take place at the Jamaica Consulate General’s office in Manhattan on February 22, as part of the celebration of Black History Month.
The forum, under the theme: Cultural Salute and Expression – Celebrating the legacy of Marcus Garvey, will be addressed by American historian, Professor Colin Palmer; president general of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, Michael Duncan; and Garveyite Jose Richards.
The forum, said organisers, will seek to highlight the role Garvey played in the civil rights movement of the United States, prior to his conviction on mail charges.
Over the years, successive Jamaican administrations and organisations here, have worked, without success to get the conviction expunged from the records.
