Prince Levy lauds single mothers

Prince Levy is hoping that his latest project, praising single moms, can inspire men not to abscond from their jobs as fathers, role models, and caregivers.

Released on January 25, Love You Mama is on the DJ Frass Records label.

“ Love You Mama represents the pain of the single mother and the fatherless. Our Jamaican society is one that is plagued with broken families and generations of trauma. There needs to be more male role models and my song is a cry for males to break that cycle of neglect,” the singjay told the Jamaica Observer.

Levy speaks from an informed position as he too grew up with a single mom.

According to a 2000 UNICEF report, many single parent households face specific social and economic challenges for both the parent and the children. About 45 per cent of all Jamaican households are female-headed.

“The pain of a broken family is passed on from generations of broken relationships and leads to broken children and this is prevalent in the Caribbean community, the burden borne by mostly Black women,” he said.

Prince Levy plans to release an album this year.

“I have been working with producer DJ Frass. We have done two big singles so far, High Grade and Love You Mama which is on a juggling rhythm with the likes of Alkaline, Alaine, Richie Spice, Christopher Martin. We are about to do an album,” he said.

Hailing from Roaring River District in Westmoreland, Prince Levy attended the Westmoreland Community Music School before moving to Kingston where he attended St George’s College.

He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Language, Communication and Society at The University of the West Indies. He currently resides in California.
