I am truly disappointed by the recent actions of the Opposition in regards to the nation’s fight against crime.

While I’ll not be too hasty, like most, to give the government a pat on the back for a job nowhere near done, it must be commended for the efforts being made.

The seemingly unending actions on the part of the People’s National Party, though, continue to bring into question its fealty to the Jamaican people.

It staunchly opposed the extension of the states of emergency (SOE) which have so far been the major contributor to the decline in serious crimes, including the number one issue, murder. It has decried the gains as insignificant for the amount of money being spent on these SOEs that actually protect the average person on a daily basis.

And now PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson is on the record complaining about the Government’s proposal to minimise or withdraw security details of former ministers.

So, it is okay with PNP for the Government to withdraw the security services from average Jamaicans, but it’s not a welcomed move to do same for his colleagues who are not currently serving Jamaica.

This reminds me of the 2003 P J Patterson salary and pensions hike for government ministers while the civil servants were told to hold strain.
