Gayle hails execution as Drewsland team consolidate
After a battling performance against Humble Lion FC on Monday night where Waterhouse FC managed to secure a 3-2 come-from-behind win, their Head Coach Marcel Gayle was left pleased with the effort of his boys.
The win took Waterhouse, who began the day tied on points with Cavalier, up to 48 points which is two behind leaders Portmore United as the race for end of season honours heats up.
“We worked hard, tirelessly. We worked on some things this week in training and they executed today in the match so congrats to the guys, I thought they played well.”
Except for one moment in the game that could have been quite significant, Gayle thought the concentration of his players was where he needed it to be.
“We were leading 3-1 and our concentration lapsed; it was the first time in the game that we didn’t try to stop the quick start and it could have cost us the game but kudos to the guys, they concentrated and played right through the game tonight and that was good.”
It was another case in which the foot prints of former Reggae Boy Tremaine Stewart was all over the contest as his overall performance and two goals helped to determine the outcome of the match which left Gayle gushing.
“He is a leader and he is a quality player, probably one of the best midfielders in the country, but he knows that he still has some more work to do so we are just taking it one game at a time and hopefully we can get better each game.”
Winning titles requires perfection or near perfection and that is not lost on the coach who will be fixing whatever issues there are, during the course of the week.
“We lapsed tonight so we have a week to fix those errors that caused us to concede some goals today (Monday), so we will be basically focusing on those areas that we are weak on this week and see if we can better the ones that we are strong on, it’s a work in progress just the same.”
Another massive challenge looms large, and so big is the contest that it has been moved from Sunday to Monday night. Up next for Waterhouse is Cavalier FC and those two will square off at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in what is expected to be another thriller.
A single point from two games so far this season against the Rudolph Speid-coached team means that Gayle is wary of the threat posed by Cavalier and he hinted as much.
“We just want to recover now and after recovery we will plan for that…but that will be an important game…Cavalier is playing well; we haven’t taken more than a point from them from the start of the season.”
The Waterhouse man did speak confidently of getting something from the encounter, however, so it’s left to be seen where the chips will fall next Monday night.
“Going away is gonna be difficult but we are up for the task and we are confident now because the guys are coming around, so hopefully we can go out there and do our best and get another favourable result,” he noted.
