Brown’s Town hunt third-straight win in Magnum KSAFA Super League
Brown’s Town will be seeking to notch their third-consecutive win when they tackle fellow east Kingston counterparts Rockfort FC in the feature game of tonight’s Magnum KSAFA Super League Zone B double-header at the Constant Spring Complex.
In the opening game at 6:30 pm, Central Kingston play against Santos FC.
The Dwayne “Bruckie” Blake-coached Brown’s Town started with a 1-0 win against Central Kingston and followed up with an emphatic 4-0 rout of Mountain View FC last weekend.
Last season, they made it all the way to the final, but ended up losing to Barbican FC. This year, they are hoping to do better and Blake said they will approach their overall goal with small steps.
“It’s our second win now, two from two. We feel good, we feel good, we’re taking one step at a time, one hurdle at a time,” said Blake.
In terms of the big picture of winning the league, Blake noted: “That is our main focus, but we’re taking it a step at a time.
“We said what happened last year, (where) we got to the final and lost, so this year our focus is to make one step further than just go the final. We need to win. It’s been a while now, we need to carry a trophy to Brown’s Town. We need to win,” emphasised Brown, the former equipment manager for the national senior men’s football team, the Reggae Boyz, and Premier League contenders Harbour View.
“Our aim is that we’re going to make the Premier League next year,” he noted.
For their game against Rockfort FC, Ryan and Romone Lewis, who each scored two goals in the last game, will headline their goalscoring intentions. Interestingly, the five goals scored by Brown’s Town are the most by any of the Zone B teams and they have not conceded a goal either on their way to accumulating six points.
Rockfort FC are fourth in the group with one point from a draw and a loss, the same situation as Santos FC and Mountain View FC, who occupy Zone B’s lowest positions. They trail Boys’ Town, who have four points and Central Kingston with three.
Despite earning only a point, Rockfort FC have consistently done well in the competition and made the semi-finals over the past five seasons.
They lost their last game 1-2 against Boys’ Town FC, but Janice Johnson, the club president’s assistant, noted that they have time to recover.
“I think it was a good game, but two mishaps and we went down 2-1,” she analysed. “The defence was a bit lacking … but I think that can be improved.”
In terms of refocusing, she said: “We need some talking to, some of them (are) not so well with going down 2-1. But I guess they just need to put themselves together and move on, and that can be done.
“We’ll talk to them and try to get them back on par. It’s just the second game, we’ve a long way to go,” said Johnson, whose team will look to their main strikers, Romarie Myers and Geovauni Samuda for goals.
