REGGAE Gone Grammy has taken her racing career a step forward with an encouraging run under jockey Dane Nelson to win division two of the John Clifton Wright Memorial Cup feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday, February 9.

Owned by Colshar Limited, the winning run by the bay filly has raised hopes for the connections to saddle an entrant in a Classic race for the first time after years of preparation.

Reggae Gone Grammy has always been a horse full of promise but the bay filly failed to live up to those predictions in her previous four starts. However, her run on Saturday gave a possible insight of her true worth as she won by 8 ½ length over six furlongs (1,200m) in a time of 1:14.1.

Trainer Fitznahum Williams, when asked how far he expects this one to go, responded: “Well, I am trying for this is a late filly. I have horses who are rated way above her level, but the expectation is for her to do good from here on.”

Commenting on the actual performance, Williams said that he was pleased with the effort by his charge.

“Well, I thought it was good. I got some time to prepare well for it and it was just a matter to see how far that she would have won based on her last race. As I said before with this filly, I will just have to try and see how far she can go as she is a very late filly. We must also take into consideration that she has just broken her maiden and we have to give her some time to try to improve on her true potential for what lies ahead,” Williams pointed out.

Reggae Gone Grammy broke well and chased Cryptocurrency (Orlando Foster) from early before taking over leaving the half mile. Reggae Gone Grammy then took over approaching the final bend and went on to win easily.

Case Closed finished second and Cryptocurrency third.
