Money Magnet the pull in Eileen Cligott Mem Trophy feature

FIVE-year-old chestnut mare Money Magnet seeks her second consecutive trophy win in as many starts when she takes on four rivals in the running of $1.3 million Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.

Money Magnet had defeated Chace The Great and stable companion Peking Cruz by a length in the Reggae Trophy on January 19 over the five straight (1,000m) course to claim her first trophy for the year.

Despite giving away lumps of weight to her rivals, Money Magnet is the class horse in this one, and much better than her opponents and should easily brush aside rivals with the minimum of fuss as this is a race tailor-made for Money Magnet.

The Graded Stakes event for three-year-olds and upward over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) is positioned as the sixth race on the 11-race programme with a post time of 2:40 pm. First post is at 11:50 am.

The Richard Azan trainee has won over this distance, the lasted on October 27 of last year when she defeated Without Exception by 2 3/4 lengths at the Open Allowance level. Money Magnet won in a time of 1:18.0, which is more than comfortable of getting by these. Money Magnet has worked brilliantly coming into this race, having clocked 1:00.0 out of the starting gates down the five-furlong straight course with four furlongs recorded in 46.2. Simon Husbands will partner M oney Magnet in this one.

Houdini’s Magic has been running below par races of late. He finished in last position behind Money Magnet in the Reggae Trophy sprint, the increase in distance for this trophy race favours Houdini’s Magic, but that’s about it as he is obviously using this race for the longer distances to come.

Despite going up in age at nine, veteran campaigner Perfect Neighbour is still tough and resilient as ever. Perfect Neighbour is also versatile and his final rattle in deep stretch could get him in the money here.

Exhilarate raced on Wednesday, and after showing good speed in the early exchanges, she weakened into fifth place behind Campesino and Peking Cruz over the five-furlongs straight. Now going longer and up in class, Exhilarate is going to be left behind here.

Peking Cruz was hindered badly by Nuclear Flight on Wednesday in a five-straight sprint fest whiich led to Campesino promoted from second to first and him being promoted from third to second position. Peking Cruz did not receive any injuries and is still ready to go here. While he has a live shot here, getting by Money Magnet will be a very difficult task for him. Peking Cruz will more than likely follow his stable companion to the wire here.

Ones to watch:

Race 1) Lambana/Estalita/My Son Bates

Race 2) El Profesor/Miss Formality/Son Son

Race 3) JamalJames/Zi Beast/Stanislaus

Race 4) Sea Swan/A Seh Soup/Lala Diva

Peking Cruz could complete theexacta behind stable companionMoney Magnet in today’sfeature.
