Scammers posing as Labour Ministry staff collecting money for farm work approval
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says it has received reports that “unscrupulous persons” purporting to be agents have been issuing approvals letters and collecting money from unsuspecting individuals wishing to participate in its farm work programme.
In a release last night, the ministry cautioned members of the public to be vigilant as it does not issue approval letters to applicants for its Overseas Employment (Farm Work) Programme.
It explained that instead, shortlisted individuals are invited to attend an interview at the ministry’s offices.
The ministry further advised that: “If you have been approached and offered placement in the ministry’s Overseas Employment Programmes for a fee, report the matter immediately to the nearest police.”
It stressed further that that any person engaging in conspiracy or collusion to illegally gain access to the programmes will be permanently barred.
