KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) on Monday ruled that Roselle Scott-Heron was unjustifiably dismissed as human resources manager at Petrojam in December 2016 and awarded her 12 months’ salary as compensation.

The IDT made the ruling after hearing evidence from both sides in seven sittings between February 5, 2018 and October 23, 2018.

At the end of the deliberations, the IDT said that Scott-Heron’s dismissal was “not only a breach of the Labour Relations Code and rules of natural justice, but was also unfair, unreasonable and unjustifiable”.

The tribunal, however, ignored her claim for three years’ salary compensation.

Scott-Heron, who was in the job since September 2014, was dismissed by former Petrojam General Manager Floyd Grindley just over a month after he took office.

Grindley has since resigned amidst the scandal embroiling the oil refinery, and so too has the woman who replaced Scott-Heron, Yolande Ramharrack.
