1. ‘I obeyed like a robot’: J’can abuse survivor tells of predator priest

Denise Buchanan was 17 when she was raped by a seminarian who continued to abuse her when he became a priest in her native Jamaica. The Catholic Church, she says, has offered her nothing but their “prayers”.

2. Gov’t willing to wait on Venezuelan nod on Petrojam shares

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says that the government is willing to wait until the Senate debate to withdraw the Bill for compulsory acquisition of Petrojam’s shares held by Venezuela’s PDVCaribe until the Senate vote.

3. PNP calls for update on implementation of ‘bad gas’ recommendations

The Opposition People’s National Party’s (PNP) Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell , wants the newly appointed Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Fayval Williams, to update the nation on the implementation of recommendations by the Petroleum Trade Reform Committee (PTRC) that investigated the substandard product in the market in 2015.

4. Jamaican in BVI accused of selling stolen boat

A Jamaican man accused of selling a fishing boat and engine that did not belong to him was granted US$40,000 bail when he appeared in court last week.

5. Inequality a major cause of strife among Jamaicans, says Victoria Mutual president

President of Victoria Mutual Group (VM) Courtney Campbell says one of the major causes of strife and lack of peace in Jamaica is inequality in the society.

6. Emergency procedures initiated to restore water supply in Stony Hill, adjoining areas — NWC

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it is initiating emergency contracting and procurement procedures to speed up efforts to restore water supply in Stony Hill and surrounding areas, which were cut off on Sunday as a result of the collapsed Airy Castle Road Bridge.

7. Reggae film archive to be established at National Library

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange says a new digital Reggae Film Archive will be established at the National Library of Jamaica in an effort to preserve Jamaica’s cultural heritage and reggae history on film.

8. Two lottery scamming suspects held in St James operation

A man and woman suspected to be in breach of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) Special Provisions Act were arrested by members of the Lottery Scam Task Force yesterday.

9. $2.58 billion to upgrade JDF facilities

The Government will be spending $2.58 billion in the 2019/2020 financial year to continue construction and improvement work of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) facilities.

10. Clinical execution crucial for Windies against England in ODIs — Holder

Captain Jason Holder has stressed the “clinical” execution of bowling plans as his inspired West Indies seek to build on their stunning Test series win with further success, when they face world number one England in the opening One-Day International of the five-match series here Wednesday.
