Two lottery scamming suspects held in St James operation
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A man and woman suspected to be in breach of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) Special Provisions Act were arrested by members of the Lottery Scam Task Force yesterday.
The two, who were reportedly travelling in a Toyota Premio motorcar, were nabbed during a special operation along the Brandon Hill main road in St James between the hours of 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
According to the corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the driver was signalled to stop and upon complying, the vehicle searched.
The police said evidence unearthed during a search of the vehicle suggested that the female and male occupants of the motorcar were involved in lottery scamming.
A warrant was prepared and a follow-up operation was carried out at their home in Catherine Hall, St James, where 19 lead sheets, one black Samsung tablet and two Samsung cellular phones were seized.
The two were taken into police custody as arrangements are being made for them to be interviewed in the presence of their attorney.
Investigations continue.
