MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Twenty-four-year-old Rojay Brown of Ritchies, Clarendon, is scheduled to be sentenced on April 17 for damaging a police vehicle in Spalding earlier this month.

Brown pleaded guilty to the charge of malicious destruction of property in the Manchester Parish Court on Wednesday.

He was offered bail in the sum of $70,000, with a surety, and ordered to pay $126,000 to compensate for the damage to the police vehicle.

The police service vehicle was damaged during a disruption in Spalding, when bus owner/operator Jermin Reid, 45, had an altercation with a policeman for trying to place his vehicle on wrecker for breaches of the Road Traffic Act, and was shot and injured.

Reid, who was shown on video footage shoving the policeman, has since been charged for assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of assault at common-law for trying to disarm the officer and for resisting arrest. He will make his appearance in court on March 13.

Another man, identified as Damion Powell, otherwise called ‘Pops,’ was slated to be charged for inciting the incident in Spalding.

According to Superintendent of the Manchester Police Division Wayne Cameron, he was heard saying “hol him mek we beat him”, as the furious bus owner approached the police officer.

Reid’s cousin, Ripton Reid, who was reportedly operating the bus on the day the incident occurred, is summoned to be in the Spalding Traffic Court on February 26 for operating contrary to the terms and conditions of his licence, not ensuring passenger safety, driving a defective vehicle, no uniform, no PPV badge and failure to wear a PPV badge.

Jermin Reid is also expected to receive summons for the breaches.
