Kingston College (KC) and Edwin Allen were the toasts of the Gibson McCook Relays capturing most events up to press time yesterday at the National Stadium.
KC dominated in the 4×100 relays, winning three of the four events. The “Purples” won in Classes Two, Three and Four.
Calabar High, on the back of a splendid backstretch by Christopher Taylor, won the Class One 4x100m in 40.20 seconds, but were later disqualified afer messing up the final baton change. Wolmer’s High were awarded the win in 40.50 seconds with St Jago second in 40.54. KC finished third in 40.59 seconds.
KC, with Adrian Kerr on anchor, captured the Class Two event in 41.18 seconds ahead of Calabar in 41.48 and St Jago third with 41.55. In Class Three, KC prevailed on 43.71 ahead of Calabar in 43.85, while JC were third in 43.95. KC won Class Four convincingly in 45.64, well ahead of St Jago in 47.03.
MVP with Chad Walker on anchor sped to 38.89 second to win the Clubs event ahead of GC Foster College with 39.05. Speed Unit was third in 39.23.
Olympian Sherone Simpson anchored Sprintec to 44.29 in the women’s Club 4×100 ahead of GC Foster with 45.11, while UWI was third in 47.35.
Edwin Allen won two of the 4x100m, capturing Classes Two and Three. In Class Two, Kevona Davis led Edwin Allen to lowering the Class Two record of 45.01 to 44.75, while in Class Three twins Tia and Tina Clayton erased the Class Three record of 44.74, clocking a mind-boggling 44.59.
Calabar brought the house down in the 4x800m with scintillating runs by Kevroy Venson and Kimar Farquharson, and in the process, lowering the record of 7:32.76 minutes by clocking 7:31.71 minutes.
Edwin Allen repelled the challenge of Holmwood Technical and won the female version 4x800m in style clocking 8:58.00.
Earlier, KC’s Wayne Pinnock soared past the coveted eight-metre mark by winning the men’s long jump with a leap of 8.14m. However, his mark, which was well over Nicholas Gordon’s record of 7.95m, was illegal with a wind of 3.9 mps. Ramone Bailey of Pelican was second with 7.92 (4.6 mps) with Shawn D Thompson of GC Foster third with 7.83m (5.7mps). KC’s Shakwon Coke was fourth with 7.75m (4.1 mps).
Tamara Myers of Jumpers Incorporated captured the women’s long jump with 6.53m ahead of Akan’s Todea Willis with 6.47m. Jessica Noble of UTech was third with 6.31m.
Janique Burgher of Edwin Allen High won the girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.75m ahead of Camperdown High’s Ramona Hylton and Herbert Morrison’s Daniella Anglin in second and third, also with a height of 1.75m.
Calabar’s Andrew Button won the pole vault open with 4.00m ahead of KC’s Andwele Shurland with 3.80m. Calabar’s Renaldo Savoury was third with 3.70m.
