Blusie makes all to release maiden tag
Four-year-old by filly Blusie, after four starts, was able to release the maiden tag in an Optional Claiming ($450,000-$400,000) event over six furlongs (1,200m) on Saturday.
Ridden by apprentice Reyan Lewis, Blusie ( Blue Pepsi Lodge – Validity) made all the running to win by a comfortable five lengths in a time of 1:17.2 for the distance.
Breaking from the number one draw, Blusie held a comfortable lead over Alexa’s Star (Trevor Simpson) going into the half mile (800m) turn.
Turning for home looking strong on the lead and with no challengers coming forward, Blusie went on her merry ways to an easy win over the fast-finishing pair of Flying Bullet (Dane Nelson) and Dash Of Class (Anthony Thomas).
Apprentice Reyan Lewis enjoying good form
Since began his career in late September of last year, apprentice Reyan Lewis is among very few of his colleagues who have been enjoying good form. On Saturday, Lewis booted home two winners to bring his seasonal tally to eight wins and the 16th of his career.
Lewis won the second race when he guided home the Spencer Chung -conditioned Blusie to a five-length win in a maiden condition race over six furlongs. Blusie won ahead of Flying Bullet and Dash of Class in a time of 1:17.2.
Lewis notched his second win in the fourth after pulling off a three length win aboard Top Eagle in a $250,000 – $210,000 claiming spread event, also over six furlongs. The Anthony Nunes trainee won ahead of Luana and Major Force in a respectable time of 1:15.2.
District Attorney cruises home easily to land second win
After a disappointing fourth-place finish by over seven lengths on last as the 4-5 favourite going 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m), District Attorney returned in a Restricted Allowance event over seven furlongs, spanking rivals by nine lengths.
District Attorney (Aaron Chatrie) broke sluggish and raced in mid-pack as Lala Diva (Dane Nelson) took the early lead from Dreamingofanna (Prince Holder), Free Marie (Trevor Simpson) and Msmyrtlerichiegirl (Christopher Mamdeen).
As the runners made their way towards the half mile, Hot Ice (Robert Halledeen) surged between horses and picked up the lead with Msmyrtlerichiegirl chasing from second and District Attorney getting into his groove.
District Attorney surrounded Hot Ice at the top of the lane and just skittered away to earn his second career win from five starts. Hot Ice held well for second place and Msmyrtlerichiegirl third with a final time of 1:27.2.
