KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has been supplying water from the Seaview Water Treatment Plant in Stony Hill since Saturday, after repairs were effected to pipes damaged under the collapsed Airy Castle Road bridge a week earlier.

The restoration of normal piped water has, however, been gradual, as the Commission had pointed out that — given the extensive undulating pipe network that had been drained of water for six days — it would take some 24-48 hours to be normalised.

As at today (Tuesday, February 26) water has been distributed to all water supply zones, the NWC said in a release.

Two temporary pipelines have been connected to by-pass the broken mains underneath the bridge and are delivering nearly two million gallons of water to the Seaview Water Treatment Plant for treatment.

The NWC said teams worked day and night for about eight days to get the plant back into operation even while other arrangements to provide a permanent solution are being finalised.
