Reifer stuns Pride to put Jaguars in control
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — West Indies Test player Raymon Reifer showcased his all-round skills in terrorising his native Barbados Pride, to put Guyana Jaguars on top as 17 wickets tumbled on the opening day of the ninth round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship here yesterday.
Choosing to bat first at the Guyana National Stadium, Pride were bundled out cheaply for 76 — their third lowest total in the modern era of the first-class championship.
Chaim Holder, batting at number 11, top-scored with breezy 22 from 18 balls with three fours but the only other batsman in double figures was opener Rashidi Boucher with 17.
The 27-year-old Reifer, bowling his deceptive left-arm seam, wrecked the innings with five for 20 and got support from medium pacer Chris Barnwell who claimed two for 26.
In reply, Jaguars found themselves in turmoil at 78 for five before Reifer arrived to stroke a responsible unbeaten 33 and guide the hosts to 162 for seven at the close.
Windies ‘A’ left-hander Vishaul Singh also scored 33 while wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble chipped in with 23, as Jonathan Carter picked up three for 45 with his rarely used medium pace.
The hosts lead by 86 runs heading into Friday’s day two.
