Bureau of Standards appoints Hopeton Heron as executive director
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chairman of the Standards Council Senator Matthew Samuda has announced the appointment of Hopeton Heron, a former Deputy Director General of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), as executive director of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ).
The BSJ said Heron’s appointment is effective today, March 1 and comes on the heels of a competitive selection process which was initiated in September 2018 in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the Public Services Commission.
Heron, an engineer, has also had stints at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, the National Environmental and Planning Agency, and the Jamaica Public Service Company.
Meanwhile Samuda expressed the council’s “deep appreciation” to Dr Dwight Ramdon who acted as executive director of the BSJ since January 2 this year, following the departure of Stephen Wedderburn, whose tenure ended in December 2018.
