Natural vibes at The Deck
Michael Barnett, vice-president with responsibility for the Caribbean at Naturalvibez.com , has big plans for their Internet streaming music show which was launched at The Deck in St Andrew last Monday.
“We’re looking at 250,000 streamers at the end of this year,” Barnett told the Jamaica Observer at the show’s launch.
Tagged Beat the Traffic Hours, the show will be streamed at 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm every Monday live from The Deck in St Andrew, features a rotating roster disc jocks including Barnett, Senor Daley, Dr Love and Errol McGowan.
Barnett said the disc jocks were selected based on their popularity at home and overseas.
The aim of the show is to tap into the diaspora which primarily listens to music via Internet-enabled devices, such as smartphones, tablets, computers and even certain car stereos. To access the show, which is free, listeners and viewers just need to go to the website. They can also interact through the built-in chat room. Guests at the venue may participate in games and giveaways.
Barnett said the idea came about from his friendly association with the Naturalvibez.com directors.
“I reached out to them about the idea of streaming in Jamaica and it was a go. So we worked and did about four tests streams from The Deck until we got it right to launch today,” he explained.
From The Deck, Naturalvibez.com plans to add other locations around the island and the Caribbean to stream.
According to Errol Peart, president of Naturalvibez.com, the Internet service began only two years ago as a hobby and eventually became a business with his wife Jean, and friends Carlyle and Olivia Mills. Currently, they stream out of Atlanta, Georgia where they are based, but plan to grow by expanding their musical offerings.
“I’m not focused on Naturalvibez.com just providing Jamaican and Caribbean music. We’re looking for a wide variety,” Peart said.
Beyond Jamaica, Naturalvibez.com is looking at adding Spanish music and reaching further into North America and Europe.
