St James thrash Cornwall College in U-14 basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — St James High snapped a winless run against Cornwall College in basketball that extended to at least three years with a big 51-30 whipping in their ISSA Western Conference Boys’ Under-14 game played at Cornwall College on Thursday.
Kemauni Welch led the way for St James High scoring 17 points coupled with 11 rebounds as they joined defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical on three points, tied for second behind Cornwall College, who lead with four points.
St James High were always in control as they led 10-5 after the first quarter, 18-16 at half time but took the game out of Cornwall College’s reach in the third quarter where they led 39-12.
Ryan Watson scored 10 points for Cornwall College and had nine steals and six rebounds.
Also on Thursday, Herbert Morrison got a walk-over win over Holland High, while Cornwall College had a similar ruling against York Castle on Tuesday when the competition started.
Seven schools are taking part in the competition, including two newcomers from St Ann — York Castle High and Ocho Rios High, as well as Muschett High.
