Lithographic and PRS execute plan for stronger business
A little over six months ago, Managing Director of Lithographic Printers Sean Duquesnay disclosed the company’s interest in partnering with small companies in its quest to become the largest player in Jamaica’s printing industry.
Sure enough, the company has held to its promise. But more interestingly, Lithographic Printers has partnered with an event management and execution company — Production Resource Systems (PRS), aimed at further diversifying its revenue stream.
The partnership which took place on January 3, means that Lithographic Printers now owns a 50 per cent stake in PRS. Since then, PRS has tweaked its logo to read ‘Powered by Lithographic’.
“We’ve always wanted to serve our clients better. We do print, we went into large format and we continue to diversify our business model,” Duquesnay told the Jamaica Observer in a round-table interview.
From the partnership, the companies hope to create a one-stop shop for event-planning customers locally.
With the nine-year-old execution agency by its side, Lithographic Printers now has the ability to offer its current client base of 500 customers not just printing and large format services, but can now look to complete their event management and advertising needs.
As for PRS, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Lynch believes that the partnership will “make for a seamless execution” the services now being offered by PRS.
“For us it’s getting to that next level, partnering with a strong company with a rich heritage in the event space. Usually we are just the end thought for the execution of the event. Now, we want to get further up the production chain and Lithographic offers us that ability,” Lynch told Sunday Finance.
While tight-lipped on the amount of cash Lithographic Printers is looking to pump into PRS’ operation, Duquesnay is confident that the partnership will place PRS among the top three players in the industry over the next two to four years.
In fact, PRS is already eyeing the acquisition of a small production house to further improve its business model.
The execution agency, which is currently based in New Kingston, now has a client base of 350 companies including Wray and Nephew, Digicel and the National Housing Trust — but plans are underway to double its client base with the assistance of Lithographic Printers.
Before that, the execution agency intends on ramping up inventory to meet the demands of new and existing customers. Since its establishment in 1999, PRS now holds a position among the top five event management and execution companies locally. The company provides professional equipment for production projects, ranging from video production to stage lighting for press conferences, workshops, product launches, corporate lymes or any function.
However, PRS recently upgraded its audio/visual and sound equipment, in line with its vision of being named among the top three players in the industry.
“We’ve always serviced all clients but our limitation was that we were only able to service one of two of these large clients and a few regular clients. Now, it gives us the ability to broaden our service and accommodate more customers,” Lynch said.
PRS is also looking to increase its staff complement from 50 to 100 people over the next 12 months.
“The partnership has increased our roles, so right now we are interviewing for specific vacancies, including business development managers, technical crew and drivers,” Lynch said.
Typical operations of PRS involves the execution of events from concept to creation including stage, tent and booth transformation, lighting, audio and video production. The company also offers furnishing and detailed décor.
