Spirit Airlines resumes flights from Orlando
MONTEGO BAY, St James —Spirit Airlines has resumed flights between Orlando in the United States of America and Montego Bay in Jamaica after a break of more than a decade.
In November 2005, the company started one daily flight between Montego Bay and Orlando and also Montego Bay and Fort Lauderdale in the United States. At that time, Orlando was not a hub, which resulted in not enough traffic to sustain flights between Montego Bay and Orlando. As a result, flights between Orlando and Montego Bay lasted only for a few months.
The maiden flight which landed shortly after 3:30 Thursday afternoon saw approximately 88 passengers, including six journalists and seven flight crew members, being welcomed to Jamaica by officials from the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB).
The airline operates four times weekly: on Monday, Wednesdays, Friday and Sunday between Sangster International Airport and Orlando International Airport.
On the remaining three days, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, the airline will be operating between the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and Orlando as of this month.
