Kappone is surely one to follow
THE Borris McIntosh-owned and trained four-year-old bay colt Kappone earned his first victory on his second attempt at the races after romping home in a maiden special weight event on Saturday.
The speedy colt made his debut on February 13, 2019 and was just beaten by Cerasini by half-a-length going 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight after leading from the start.
This time going the same distance with a replacement of riders from apprentice Romario Smith to Shamaree Muir, Kappone was not for the catching as he powered away from rivals to win by 8 ½ lengths.
“Maybe the rider made the difference today (Saturday) and the experience was also there. It was Kappone’s second race and I was expecting a lot from him and he delivered.
“The performance was good and the hope is that he can go from strength to strength. He is a nice horse who will do himself justice in the future,” McIntosh said.
Kappone broke well from the number two draw and immediately went straight for the lead. He stayed with the field for the first two furlongs (400m) and after coming across the dummy rivals, he sprinted off and cruised home for an eye-catching win.
Although the time was ordinary at a minute flat, it was the manner of the performance that suggested that Kappone will win again.
