Son Son makes it win number three
FOUR-year-old bay colt, Son Son picked up his third career win on Saturday in a Restricted Allowance event for non-winner of three horses.
After finishing in sixth place going 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight by 8 ½ lengths in a final time of 59.4 behind Yaya’s Dream.
On Saturday, Son Son made a smooth transition to 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) and proved quite effective, winning by 4 ½ lengths.
Son Son, ridden by Oneil Mullings, didn’t get off to a good start and raced behind the leaders in the early part of the race.
As the runners made their way towards the six-furlong (1,200m) point, Lord Ashton (Dane Nelson) took over the lead ahead of Jammin (Shane Richardson), Friendly Neighbour (Tevin Foster) and She’s Symbolic (Robert Halledeen).
Jammin then took over and sprinted clear from rivals running the half-mile turn with a bunch of horses in the distance chasing along with Son Son.
Son Son then came up in deep stretch and started to challenge by this time hitting his top stride. The Gresford Smith-trainee powered home for the victory.
She’s Symbolic finished second with Ricky Ricardo (Anthony Thomas) third. The final time was 1:33.3.
“The win was expected today (Saturday). Son Son came off a rest as he had a little problem in the latter part of last year and he needed a couple of races to get his legs underneath him.
“With those two runs under his girth, he came through for us today (Saturday) and I am proud of him. We will see how he comes out and we will have a look at what we will do next,” Smith said.
