Sebastian gets off the mark
Sebastian’s three-quarter length victory in Division 2 of a native-bred three-old maiden condition race on Ash Wednesday (March 6, 2019) has given a glimmer of hope to his connections for future engagements.
Sebastian earned a fighting win over Layu Kawen going 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m). Bred by Western Classic out of the Law of The Sea mare Sea Treaty, Sebastian ran 1:33.1 for the distance.
Ridden by Oneil Mullings, Sebastian broke well in second place behind Riddim Up (Abigail Able) at the off but Time For A Kola (Phillip Parchment) shot to the front with Awesome Miracle (Omar Walker) and Layu Kawen (Linton Steadman) chasing while Sebastian was taken off the pace.
Sebastian would then get back into the mix when he slipped down into third behind Time For A Kola and Layu Kawen at the half-mile (800m) turn.
Coming into the lane, Sebastian drew alongside Layu Kawen and the two engaged in a short battle before Sebastian edged away. Envisaged (Robert Halledeen) finished third and Angel Song (Devon Thomas) fourth.
When asked about the Classic races ahead, trainer Philip Feanny responded: “Possibly! Horses improve a lot and Sebastian has the ability to do it. I am pleased with his performance here.”
