Another ‘Super’ performance Superluminal

Superluminal makes it three in a row after taking King’s Plate, now enters ‘A Class’

ALTHOUGH he is now seven-years-old, and although he has had his share of injury problems, Superluminal has found it difficult to achieve purple patch in local racing.

With his long established trademark attributes of grit and determination, Superluminal, the 2015 winner of the Jamaica St Leger, pulled another win from his hat, his third in a row, when he rallied in deep stretch to win the $1.15 million King’s Plate feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Showing his true fighting spirit, Superluminal, ridden by Omar Walker defeated Houdini’s Magic and Nuclear Flight by two lengths in the three-year-olds and upward event over 7 1/2 furlongs (1500m).

“Excellent. The performance from Superluminal was excellent. He came up a lot in the weights and he actually put this race away a lot better than the last one.

“I almost want to imagine that he is on the improve quite frankly even at this age but he is really a nice, tough horse and he got the job done and Omar (Walker) rode a fantastic race as usual and I am happy for the win,” Ian Parsard, the trainer of the bay horse shared with The Supreme Racing Guide.

The trainer added: “Well, he is in Grade One company now but I don’t think the formula for Superluminal will change. He has a couple of issues that we have spoken about repeatedly and we just have to manage every single race with him. One race at a time and hopefully he continues to be sound and we can get the best out of him.”

Superluminal was off to a good start at the break and engaged in a tight duel with Nuclear Flight (Dane Dawkins), Houdini’s Magic (Shane Ellis) and Drummer Boy (Trevor Simpson) for the lead.

Travelling sweetly down the backstretch, Superluminal held a slight lead, and with Nuclear Flight began to draw away from the field, with the two still engaged in a battle of their own in what looked as if it was going to be a match race.

Coming into the lane, Nuclear Flight, the younger of the two, assumed the lead over the old-stager and looked strong on the outside leaving the furlong -and-a-half (300m) marker.

Walker realising that his mount still had a lot of running in him got down to serious business and produced Superluminal on the inside rails, regaining the lead close to home before pulling away. After recording splits of 24.1, 46.3 and 1:10.4, a final time of 1:31.1 was posted.

Jockey Omar Walker rarely smiles but he was in a particularlyhappy mood after steering home Superluminal in the King’s Plate.
