Barbican, Central Kingston lead in Magnum KSAFA Super League

Defending champions Barbican FC and Central Kingston FC hold down the front-running positions in the respective preliminary zones in the Magnum KSAFA Super League.

Barbican FC, the only unbeaten team in the Corporate Area’s top-tier football competition, drew 1-1 with fourth-place Meadforest in the opening game of Saturday night’s double-header at Constant Spring, to stay at the top of Zone A on 14 points. Barbican FC, however, underwent some nervy moments throughout and only got their equalising goal at 90+2 minutes, from Joel Nicholas.

Omari Edwards had given Meadforest the lead at the 38th minute, earning his team a point that lifted their tally to eight.

They are led by Molynes United FC (11) and Real Mona FC (10), the former earning their 11th point in Saturday’s opening match against second from bottom Constant Spring FC. Damian Thomas scored for Molynes United at the 61st minute, while Javier Wilmot netted for Constant Spring, which advanced to four points.

Real Mona FC won the other Zone A match, defeating Maxfield Park FC 1-0 on a Kemroy Phillips goal.

In Zone B, Central Kingston defeated Brown’s Town 2-0 on Friday night to move to the top on 15 points. The win, their fifth in succession, also avenged their first-round loss. Brown’s Town, on the other hand, slipped to second with their first loss, but remained within striking distance on 13 points.

Boys’ Town defeated Rockfort FC 2-1 on a double by new signee, former Reggae Boy Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson, to claim third on 10 points. That is well clear of Rockfort FC, which have five points, the same as Mountain View FC, which drew 1-1 against Santos when they renewed their east Kingston rivalry on Sunday.

Shai Smith gave Santos a 1-0 lead at the 26th minute, while Daniel Hardy equalised for Mountain View FC at the 41st minute. The second draw left Santos at the bottom of Zone B on two points.

Meanwhile, there were six matches in zones A and B of the Magnum KSAFA Major League. In Zone A games on Saturday, Christopher Mason scored at the 32nd minute to hand Police National a 1-0 win over Olympic Gardens, Cooreville Gardens, with a goal from Matthew Sterling, drew 1-1 against Pembroke Hall, for whom Hanif Shand score; while Seaview Gardens and Duhaney Park drew 1-1.

Police National lead with 15 points, followed by Shortwood, Seaview and Olympic Gardens are tied on 10 points. Cooreville Gardens FC follow on eight points, while Pembroke Hall (4) and Duhaney Park (2) are next.

In Sunday’s Zone B Major League games, Troy Nosworthy slammed home a hat-trick as Swallowfield FC beat Allman/Woodford 3-2. Jashu Walters scored both goals for Allman/Woodford FC. In one other game, Liguanea United and Bull Bay drew goalless

Liguanea head the standings with 13 points, followed by Greenwich Town FC and Bull Bay with 11 each. New Kingston and August Town are next with seven points, trailed by Allman/Woodford (4) and Swallowfield FC (3).

Action continues today, with a Magnum KSAFA Super League double-header at Constant Spring Complex. In the opening game at 6:30 pm, Mountain View FC tackle Brown’s Town FC, while Rockfort FC face Central Kingston FC at 8:30 pm.
