JAMAICA COFFEE FESTIVAL: Beauty Round-Up

We certainly didn’t expect to find such an impressive range of coffee-infused beauty products at the recently concluded Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival (held in Newcastle, Irish Town). We reckon you’ll be equally impressed. Plus, your best accessory is the hairclip! What Under the Dryer learnt from this past fashion season (December 1, 2018 – March 8, 2019) was that the trend du jour adds a certain pizzazz to any outfit or hairdo, be it a long bob, a short bob, braided styles, or even the centre-parted cane row.

Paradise Child Blue Mountain Coffee Scrub

Paradise Child CEO Brittany Lyons has created six Blue Mountain Coffee-infused face and body scrubs made entirely of raw ground coffee fused with either charcoal, oats, cinnamon, raw cane sugar, or lemongrass and green tea. The low-maintenance product is perfect for your two-day-a-week beauty regime.

I Love Sweetness Coffee Scrubs

I Love Sweetness Coffee Scrubs founder Sadé Rhone is a do-it-yourself CEO who studied coffee-scrub-production at the University of YouTube. She has never been a fan of facial scrubs with either oils, soaps, or moisturising products, especially since she’s more of a naturalista. She likes her scrubs simple with very little additives. So, she created a line of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee scrubs that have three main ingredients: ground coffee, salt minerals, and sucrose – in particular, sugar crystals that exfoliate. Some contain additives, however, like the turmeric, cinnamon, lemongrass, and coconut-activated charcoal – all elements that create a new experience for the consumer.

The new product is her Espresso Exfoliator that not only lifts impurities, but also moisturises the skin, unlike her activated charcoal alternative that tends to dry the skin, as well as the rhassoul clay-infused scrub: an ‘-ium’-charged ingredient (calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which, when combined, softens the skin).

“One of the hurdles right now is packaging. Our coffee scrubs are in bio-degradable packages that you can keep in the shower, and won’t harm the environment. Our next step is creating a line of moisturisers.”

Pretty So’ Botanicals

Cosmetologist and hospitality manager Kirstie Robinson created Pretty So’ Botanicals in 2003 and has since been researching and formulating recipes for the best hypo-allergenic products to treat and repair the skin. Pretty So’ products are all hand-made from scratch with natural, botanical ingredients, made in small batches, which allows for better quality control and customisations.

Robinson is not interested in fragrance, she prefers an all-natural product that gets the job done with the least chemical interference. The products are infused with natural fragrances such as coconut, lemongrass, vanilla and peppermint at the customer’s request. Pretty So’ currently offers four different product types: bar soaps, body butters, body oils and lip balms, which can all be customised with scents and herbs of your liking.

De La Enzie Essentials

Research scientist and CEO of De La Enzie Essentials Chenielle Delahaye-McKenzie has formulated just about every kitchen or household essential into an oil-based beauty product that can also be used in the kitchen. Now your meals can have more pizzazz with just about any of your favourite condiments or products. The plus is, the oils can also be used to combat skin ailments, more effectively than water-based products. So, with a range of essential oils that include neem, cinnamon, bitter orange, rosemary, fennel, and thyme, you too can smell like a bowl of porridge. Enjoy!

Clip Art

Well, Fashion Week happened and your Under the Dryer beauty squad has curated 12 of the chicest beauty moments during New York and Paris Fashion Week. Some of the looks include 3-D hair clips, jump rings, and a funky blunt bob with a bang worn by actress Kat Graham, while others feature traditional styles such as the messy ponytail, vintage hair clips, and even gaudy minimalist earrings. Perhaps one of our favourite crown-to-neck beauty moment was the au naturel Afro mohawk and micro specs look snapped during New York Fashion Week. Here are 12 inspiring beauty looks.

The beauty score at Valentino’s Fall/Winter ready-to-wear show was all about chalky lids and eyes, and delicate earrings.

Arguably the chicest bob ever was seen on this fashionista during NYFW.

We love a clean skin, gorgeous brows, and well-kept updo combo whenever we see it.

Model Duckie Thot was spotted during NYFW rocking a blunt bob, forage cap and a military-inspired ensemble.

Pearls add a touch of elegance to just about anything. This particular placement style works best to secure wisps and flyaways on a short bob.

Barneys New York Senior Social Media Manager Candace Marie sports waist-grazing crown braids accentuated with gold jump rings.

Why stop at just clips? Adding a statement earring too can bring all the attention to the face.

Pulling every clip from your jewellery box and sliding them into your hair is only recommended for the pros.

Flower clips, though minimalist, add a jazzy new spin to just about any style such as this tousled blunt cut.

Actress Kat Graham was seen sporting a short bob with soft bangs.

Punk up your loose ponytail by incorporating a single cornrow down the centre, and adding jump rings or waves.

Actress Kat Graham snapped during fashion week rocking a hairpin of pearls.
