GraceKennedy star at Business House awards ceremony
Division One champions GraceKennedy won four awards at the presentation ceremony for the 2018 Western Sports Kingston & St Andrew Business House Football competition at the Red Stripe Sports Bar recently.
They defeated many-time champions Petrojam 1-0 in the final and they also won the Raymond Quallo Memorial Challenge Trophy (contested between the knockout and Divisions One and Two champions). GraceKennedy’s player Claude Allen was the Most Valuable Player of the Division One final and Patrick Haughton the Coach of the Year. Ryan Miller of RJR/Gleaner Group was the Division One’s leading goalscorer with eight.
ATL Industrial Group won their first knockout trophy by defeating GraceKennedy 1-0 in the final . ATL’s Jamoy Sibblies was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final.
The Division Two champions were Bank Of Jamaica (BOJ), who defeated NHT 5-4 on penalties. Goalkeeper Jabari Wallace of BOJ was the final’s MVP and manager Temeisha Miller of BOJ took home the Manager of the Season award.
Scotiabank won the one-day five-a-side rally for the third-straight year and got the first hold on the new CargoNow trophy. They defeated Wisynco in the final 1-0. JN Bank received the Fairplay trophy for being the Most Disciplined team.
Wilverglen Lamey was the Referee of the Year, while Clive Dixon was voted Assistant Referee of the Year.
The Abe Alexander Memorial Award went to Clyde Jureidini of Harbour View Football Club for his outstanding service to football as an administrator and a coach.
Wayne Shaw, president of KSAFA, praised the 20 teams for their participation in the various competitions and thanked their long-time sponsors for making the season a success.
“Sponsorship is very important and (Western Sports) has been with Business House football for the past 13 years and I know he will be with us for another year,” said Shaw.
He also praised Scotiabank who has been a sponsor of the knockout competition for the past 11 years, as they continue to provide support to football locally and internationally as well, also being a sponsor of the Concacaf Champions League competition.
Tanique Copeland, CEO of first-time sponsor CargoNow Limited, who sponsored the one-day five-a-side rally, said that her company would be back on board next season, as football is a good vehicle for her courier service business and she was pleased with the discipline by the teams in the competition.
