Cops seize gun used in weekend murder
Two firearms, one of which is said to be related to a murder, and several rounds of ammunition were seized in Kingston and Westmoreland over the weekend, police reported yesterday.
According to the Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU), the police are investigating a murder and firearm seizure in August Town, Kingston 7, in which a 23-year-old man was shot by unknown assailants in the community on Saturday.
Reports from the August Town police are that a team of officers were in the area on Saturday night when they heard explosions, and upon arriving at the scene they found Mark Harris, otherwise called Redman,a contractor of August Town Road, with gunshot wounds.
The lawmen say a Kel-Tec 9mm pistol with a magazine containing seven 9 mm cartridges was found at the scene.
Exactly one month ago in another incident in the area, a man — Andrew Marriot of Gold Smith Villa — was gunned down and a university student injured. In January dozens were taken into custody in a massive police operation related to renewed gang war in the community.
Also on Saturday in Little London, Westmoreland, police seized a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in Mango Hall district. The Little London police say that about 10:00 pm officers were on patrol in the area when a motorcycle with two men aboard was observed speeding.
According to the police, a single action 9mm pistol with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds of ammunition was discovered on the scene after the men crashed the motorcycle into an embankment and fled.
No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Meanwhile, the Yallahs police in St Thomas are investigating yesterday’s suspected case of suicide by 50-year-old Anthony Anderson, a farmer of Hampstead district in the parish.
Police said that about 9:30 yesterday morning concerned citizens went in search of Anderson, who had not been seen in days. Persons alerted the police after Anderson was found hanging from the ceiling by a piece of rope around his neck.
