Holness, ask Trump to clear Garvey’s name
Dear Editor,
I heard in the media of the meeting scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2019, in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, USA, of President Donald Trump and our Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
I hereby urge Holness to seize the opportunity to impress upon Trump the need for him to clear the name of Jamaica’s first National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey of the criminal record he has in the US.
That conviction was as a result of Garvey’s advocacy as the world’s maximum black leader in the time of the fight for black equality. Upon his shoulders have stood subsequent great black achievers such as the late great American Martin Luther King Jr, Jamaica’s Bob Marley, and now Usain Bolt.
By clearing Garvey’s name Trump would demonstrate to the world the sincerity of his continuous assertion of being a fair-minded, non-discriminatory, dispenser of justice.
As a token of appreciation for his impending exoneration of Garvey, I will present to the president the gift of two pertinent songs — America Unite and Jamaica Unite by “Danny Reggae”.
