Shelling the dance in Guy’s Hill
The seventh staging of Shellings, dubbed Braff N Floss Edition, takes place tomorrow at Annex Plaza in Guy’s Hill, St Catherine. A number of top acts, including Yanique “Curvy Diva” Barrett, Tommy Lee Sparta, Chuck Fenda, Teejay, Alozade, Maestro Don, Vijahn and Sherece, are scheduled to perform.
According to co-promoter Linval Garriques, part proceeds from the event will go to the Guy’s Hill Health Centre.
“Growing up in the community, having seen little or no improvement done to the health centre over the years and the discomfort that some patients experience when using the facility, we decided that we would give back and assist in whatever way we can. We are part of the community and we care about what happens there,” he explained.
Garriques said he has a close relationship with workers at the facility.
Shellings was first held in 2002 as a dance and featured sound systems Stone Love and Bass Odyssey. Promoters eventually added live performances in the form of dancehall artistes.
“We want to make Shellings one of the best events this side of the island, so we decided to go with the greatest sound systems of all time. We also aim for top acts from the dancehall to attract patrons across the island to our event,” Garriques said.
Stone Love and Bass Odyssey return for another crack at Shellings. Fire Links are also part of this year’s show.
