A warrior in Lipstyck
While going through a career lull, singjay Lipstyck endured mounting frustration that soon gave way to a burst of inspiration, which resulted in Unstoppable Warrior, her latest song.
The horn-hooked track is produced by St Owenz Records. It projects resilience, a trait Lipstyck believes is critical for female artistes.
“It’s ( Unstoppable Warrior) personal as well as a female empowerment song. I was going through a lot in my music career and I did it to remind me that I am unstoppable, and I’m a strong individual,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
A former student of Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Lipstyck (real name Sheri-Ann Francis) has been recording since 2005. It was not until eight years later that her first song, You and Me, was released; that has been followed by Hell Yeah, You’re so Hot/Tempting and Omg.
Like Unstoppable Warrior, Omg and Money Move, which were released in 2018, are produced by St Owenz Records.
Lipstyck’s recording career started in an era of prominence for outrageous female artistes. Though she would like to see more positive images portrayed by her peers, Lipstyck also has a “to each their own” policy when it comes to making music.
Though Unstoppable Warrior was written to help rid her of the career blues, it is also a nod to a special woman.
“I grew up in a home where my Mum was the breadwinner for five kids. I always look at that and see the firmness of my Mum,” she said.
