All set for Different Strokes’ 10th anniversary retro party
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — Promoters of Negril’s signature retro party series, the Charley’s JB Overproof Rum-sponsored Different Strokes, say they plan to make Saturday’s 10th staging of the event set for Island Lux Beach in the resort town of Negril, “the retro party of the century”.
Hundreds of patrons are expected to turn out to dance the night away to their favourite retro songs played by some of Jamaica’s finest retro selectors.
“We are going to deliver, as per usual, a stellar and dynamic experience… it will be the retro party of the century,” said Sean Greenfield, an organiser and producer of the event.
Started in March 2009, Different Strokes is known for its high standards and quality, and has attracted thousands of patrons from across the island and overseas.
“Patrons have grown to love and enjoy the event and on Saturday we will again take them on another musical journey,” Greenfield told the Jamaica Observer West.
“It will be a spectacular night to relive the music of yesteryear orchestrated by veteran DJ Mixx Master Marvin, Colin Hines, and DJ Big Red, among others,” said Greenfield, adding that “an unforgettable night is promised as this line-up showcases stalwarts in the retro arena.”
Greenfield stressed that Saturday’s staging of the event will be “drink inclusive”.
“Every patron who attends the party will be allowed to consume any amount of beers, vodka and rum. That will be a part of us giving back to our loyal patrons as we celebrate our 10th anniversary,” said Greenfield.
General admission for the party is $3,000 pre-sold and $4,000 at the gate, while a VIP pass attracts a price tag of $5,000 pre-sold and $6,000 at the gate.
VIP passes include fully Jamaican cuisine, beers, vodka and several other beverages, according to the organisers.
Tickets are available online at www.firstinlineja.com; Di Foto Shop, Montego Bay; World of Sports, Negril; UG Cellular, Lucea; Karla Nail Salon and Fontana Pharmacy in Savanna-la-Mar and Candid Expressions, Beadle’s Plaza in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.
